Mon, May. 12th, 2008, 10:56 pm Defrost STAT
I love when I have a good boss. At least from what I remember. Norma was good, but that was two bosses ago.
I heard my boss mention to someone last week that she needed to defrost the medication refrigerator at some point. We have an extra refrigerator in one of the exam rooms that can be used to store the medicine when the other fridge is being defrosted. You just need to make sure a doctor isn't seeing patients in that room. Of course, today all the exam rooms were in use. Instead of waiting until we had empty rooms on Tuesday, guess which day my boss picked to defrost the refrigerator? Sat, May. 10th, 2008, 02:33 pm Bumper Sticker
Seen on car in front of Starbears:
"If Christ died for my paltry sins, I think he overreacted." Sat, May. 10th, 2008, 11:19 am I know that proximity to me is important, but...
I was a bit suprised when the duplex across the street listed for $2 million last year. It still hasn't sold, even though the price has been reduced to $1.7 million. (Owned by an Asian lesbian.) There's a house down the street that originally listed for $2 million. The price has been dropped to $1.5 million. (Owned by a butch daddy with pitbulls.) The house two doors down from me just went on the market this week. It's a 3-BR 3.5 bath single-family home listed at $2.6 million. (Owned by a gay Asian couple.) $2.6 million? Just to be near me? What a joke. EDIT: Actually, it's not so bad. I just did the mortgage calculator, and the payments would only be $17,642.35 per month. Fri, May. 9th, 2008, 10:03 pm Final take-home essay
I've been spending a lot of hours this week on my last take-home research essay for English 1A class. We are scheduled for a peer review of the paper tomorrow, and we're to submit it for grading next Saturday.
My essay thesis is "Internet commerce owes its success to innovations pioneered by pornography distributors." So far, I'm pretty happy with the paper. I should give it a happy ending.
With tomorrow's peer review deadline, I've been slaving away to finish it tonight. Someone just called to let me know that tomorrow's class is canceled. Perfect timing. Having the pressure to get most of it done by tomorrow helped me to do a lot.
I can sleep in tomorrow! Wed, May. 7th, 2008, 05:41 am Something to find interesting. Or not.
Last night was my last Physics Lab before next week's final. The class has been hit or miss. It hasn't been stressful. Some weeks are interesting, most weeks are not.
Last night's lab had a bit to do with x-rays. The instructor said, "this is something you radiology tech students will find interesting." But I didn't.
I realized that I'm more of a procedure person, and I don't give a shit about the science behind how something works. I think I'd be able to do a fantastic job as a x-ray tech; however, I think the program's 36 months of science and theory would frustrate me to no end.
I've no purpose. Being #8 in a square is about all I'm good for, but that's only when no one else is available. What's the point? Tue, May. 6th, 2008, 07:55 am May I have your SPAM leftovers?
For a paper I'm doing, I need examples of SPAM headlines that try to thwart filters (using numerals for letters, etc.), for instance, "pr0n," "V1agra," et al.; HOWEVER, the ad must be for something other than sex or medications. I've found "Cheap Aut0 Insurance," but I'd like another example or two. Th@nks. Sat, May. 3rd, 2008, 10:58 pm
"I love you to pieces."
-- Jeffrey Dahmer Sat, May. 3rd, 2008, 04:00 pm Maybe she didn't like the card?
My Aunt Naomi recently celebrated her 80th birthday. Her daughter, Cindee, held a "card shower" for her. My cousin had solicited lots of family to send her a birthday card. I thought it was a nice idea, and I sent a nice, plain, big-print birthday card.
I got a letter today, along with some pics from the party.
My aunt writes:
"I can't see much, but I want to let you know that there is a gravesite next to your mom if you should ever need it." Wed, Apr. 30th, 2008, 05:58 pm Gary-aoke - May 22nd
Mark your calendar: Thursday, May 22nd, showtunes around the piano from 7pm-9:30pm. We may even serve birthday cake a week early. Hot tub available until ???. My hand still isn't fully healed from my fall a couple months ago, but I can at least fake it on the piano now with a Vicodin. (Well, I usually fake it anyhow.) School will be done, and Gary-aoke is just plain overdue. Lemme know if you want added to the Evite.

I delivered my last speech for speech class tonight. Thanks to everyone who answered my LJ poll. The stats really helped. I used devldog's greeting card as part of my attention-getter. That went over great. ( check it out!) My sales pitch was about using USPS Forever Stamps. I was able to even convince myself that there is a lot more reason to buy them than just price. (FYI - USPS first-class postage goes up May 12th, so buying Forever Stamps now makes sense.) I'm grateful that they laughed at all the funny parts, and I'm happy that it's over. I have one short "self-assessment" to write, one more quiz, and one final exam for this class before it's done. Almost there! Sun, Apr. 27th, 2008, 08:55 pm Need your help - poll
For a speech on Monday night, I need some non-scientific poll results from friends (and/or enemies). Poll #1178807 E-cards vs. Paper Greeting Cards
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllFor special occasions (birthday, Mother's Day, bris...), do you prefer an E-card or a Paper greeting card? Fri, Apr. 25th, 2008, 09:09 am 3 out of 4
The lung girl is gonna be off from work for two more weeks. One MA called in sick. I'm off on vacation. That leaves one MA for today. I told an LVN yesterday to take pity on the MA if this happened. She said, "I'll help out." I replied, "I didn't say help out, I just said to have pity on her."
Of course, my boss could request someone from the float pool to help out. But that would impact management bonuses, so she refuses to do that. Money first, patients somewhere after that. Thu, Apr. 24th, 2008, 09:51 pm Long week
A woman at work has been out sick for over a week. One of the cleaning products at work did some damage to her lungs. The fumes are terrible, yet there's nothing on the warning label about that. I saw her today, and she'll return to work in the next day or so. With her out sick, it's been busier. Plus, the clinic has been much busier, as we try to pay the salary for the new UCSF president. (A memo was sent out saying hundreds of workers in his office will be losing their jobs. Fascism rules!) This morning, another co-worker left sick. It made for a super busy day. I'm exhausted. I have tomorrow off for vacation. I pity the lone co-worker if none of the sickos return. I'm sure some of the nurses will chip in to help. Maybe. I'm skipping my English 1A class on Saturday. (Yes, I notified the instructor.) We're heading up to Guerneville for a squaredancing weekend. Steve was sick today, so hopefully he'll be feeling better once we get up to the Russian River. Besides dancing, hopefully it'll be a nice, relaxing weekend. Sun, Apr. 20th, 2008, 11:59 am $1500 1-bedroom apt
There's a one-bedroom apartment across the street available for $1500/mo. I haven't seen anything cheaper on my block for awhile. Open house today. Craigslist ad. Wed, Apr. 16th, 2008, 07:48 am Starbucks perks
Starbucks changed their Starbucks card options this month so that registered users get some additional perks:
1) Syrup and milk options on the house. (A tall vanilla soy latte would be the same price as a tall latte.)
2) Brewed coffee refills at no charge. (This is normally fifty cents.)
3) Free tall beverage with whole bean purchase. (Could include tall 5 shot caramel soy latte, which I'm guessing is usually $32 or something.) Wed, Apr. 16th, 2008, 05:21 am Pointy
Thanks for the comments on the Whats-the-point entry from last week. I'm pretty much convinced that I had one once, but it's gone for good. For the next month or so, I'll just focus on some short-term goals. Work has been somewhat crappy. I think my boss has Alzheimer's or some other disease that is eating her brain. I'm sorry that she has this medical condition, but I'm finding it impossible to deal with her stupidity. She should go on medical leave rather than subject the staff and patients to her behavior. A co-worker is on my shitlist. She's always been stupid (i.e. believing that The Onion is a real newspaper), but now her stupidity is getting aggressive. She will be moving to a new job whenever they can find a replacement, but in the last year and a half, they've never been able to get anyone else to accept this $15-$16/hour job. My tact has teamed up with apathy and seems to be heading down the same path as the point. Sat, Apr. 12th, 2008, 04:07 pm Rough school week
It was a busy week at school, culminating in a presentation today along with an essay exam, both in my English 1A class. I was working on my presentation until after midnight last night, but I got it done. Thank goodness that I'm also taking speech class this semester, because the skills I learned there certainly helped.
My speech went well. I spoke about gays in the military. Part of our past reading was about "keeping silent" and on "covering," both which tied in well to the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. I was able to relay my own experiences in the Army, and that seemed to pique interest.
The in-class essay went better than the last couple. I really hate those.
I have just over a month of classes left for the semester. Getting through today was a big hurdle. I'm confident that I'll be able to hang on until the end. Well, the end of the semester anyhow. Tue, Apr. 8th, 2008, 04:17 pm
What's the point? I've totally forgotten. Does anyone know? Tue, Apr. 8th, 2008, 05:48 am busy week after work
Monday - Exam Tuesday - Exam Wednesday - Exam Saturday - Presentation + Essay Exam
And I'm getting testy. Tue, Apr. 8th, 2008, 05:42 am As long as it's newsworthy at the Chronicle...
