08:30 am, May 4th - so maybe *I* invented the internet
For the last year or so, I've been dealing with a super annoyance on bear411. No, I'm not talking about a certain person on LJ. (He's been annoying people for at least a FEW years.)

It's that at the end of reading a chat message (or multiple messages), I always receive a message that pops up: "[THIS PROFILE DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE]." If I click reply, delete, reply later or refuse messages, it crashes my Firefox session. The only thing I can do with it is close the window, and it "goes away" until I receive the next valid message. This bogus message doesn't appear when I use Internet Explorer. Messages to Greg about it go unanswered.

Along with the message is the statement, "[Sent xxx days ago]." I really haven't paid attention to the number of days, I just knew it was a long time ago. Today I realized that the number of "days ago" is 13272, and I finally did the math. That's 36 years ago. So yeah, maybe *I* invented the internet. Or maybe the bear411 message was from Al Gore.

I'm thinking that deleting the account and re-adding it will take care of the problem. I'll try that soon. (I just hate showing up as "NEW" on the list. Sometimes those guys who know you're not-so-fresh make assumptions.)

I don't think I see that on Firefox, I'll have to double check to be sure. I usually use Internet Explorer for 411. I have seen that however on my pocket pc as well as quite often will get logged out when I use the pocket pc. Do you have the latest version of Firefox?

Yes, I have the latest version of Firefox. I'm pretty sure it's just my account, with some weird old message on bear411 that just won't go away.

It's Grease Monkey. It let's you tweak Firefox a lot if you're up on technical stuff. I installed just to be able to collapse certain LJ entries for certain people, but that feature doesn't work with my "LJ style." Grrrrrr. I haven't explored it's other uses.

His Almighty Hind-Ass (oops, I meant "Highness") Gregory, Omnipotent Webfuck of Bear411.com, deleted my profile sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. yesterday (02/25/07) for no evident reason. I hadn't violated any of his "Terms of Service" (which ARE posted on the site, but only visible via a link on the "create profile" page). I had been a paying member for 4 consecutive years, my most recent subscription having just expired on 01/05/07. I didn't bother to renew it; I decided I'd just cruise along in "freebie" mode for awhile. Curious that, huh. In August '06, someone logged into bear411.com as me (I had NEVER shared my password with anyone). The hacker rearranged my "pal list" there, deleting some pals' (including the webmaster's) profiles from my list, and adding others' (with whom I had never had any contact). Bizarre. It gets better -- this hacker proceeded to send IMs to about 10 guys who I'd never contacted; these were extremely inflammatory, rude IMs. When I logged in next, I had numerous indignant replies to IMs that I'd never sent. I explained to each that I'd been compromised somehow, that I'd already changed my password upon discovery, and apologized. I filled out a trouble ticket in their so-called "e-support" system, which trouble ticket was deleted without explanation. I sent an IM to His Hind-Ass Greg (oops, I did it again!), which also went unreplied. After about 5 more IMs to the "webmaster" over the next 3 days, he finally replied, recommending that I change my password. Duh. I sent him another IM asking him how this could have happened and what, if anything, he was doing to protect members' privacy (this was, as you'll recall, during the 4th consecutive year of my paid membership) -- this IM, too, went unreplied. There's no way to contact this so-called "webmaster" unless one has a profile on the site. E-mails to "greg@bear411.com", "webmaster@bear411.com", "support@bear411.com" and "greg@buddybear.net" (direct link in his own private website) all bounce back undeliverable. What bullshit. Today, I said "enough!" I'd already tried to re-establish my profile there 3 times earlier today. Subsequent re-login attempts returned "profile is new -- thanks to let us review it" and, later in the day, "user name unknown". What an incredibly stupid way to do business, not to mention an insulting way to treat people. Bearciti, here I come...

BearCity is much better than bear411

Heya guys, I still did not manage to create a profile on bear4/11, I suppose it's because i am a chaser. Well, I stick to BearCity, they are friendly and accept all and bears and chubs and chasers. As far as I know there is no censorship on online messages and it's fun to chat in their chat and cam room.
Well, there are TOS but TOS are everywhere.
HUGS to all
