01:06 pm, June 3rd - RIP Jim Cunningham
Sad news. Jim Cunningham died this morning. He went by several names on here. The longest-running name that I remember is sflonestar.
Jim lived up the street from me and was one of the first people to come to my "Gary-aoke" sing-a-longs back in 2002. I'd often see him walk by my house walking his dog.
He was in Seattle just a couple weekends ago at a conference with my husband Steve.

08:01 am, May 8th - Summer off
I had signed up for MySQL for the summer semester. I'll be using SQL again at work after a several-year hiatus, so I thought this would help; however, fall classes have been announced, and they have a Microsoft SQL Server class. That's what my company uses, so I'm gonna wait for that class. I'd rather take a 17-week class in 17 weeks instead of 17-week class in 7 weeks anyhow. ;-)

10:26 am, April 26th - Sock it to me
A Latino man who spoke no English went into an American department store to buy socks. He found his way to the Men's Wear department where a young lady offered to help him.
"Quiero calcetines" said the man.
"I don't speak Spanish, but we have some very nice suits over here." said the salesgirl.
"No, no quiero trajes. Quiero calcetines." said the man.
"Well, these shirts are on sale this week." declared the salesgirl.
"No, no quiero camisas. Quiero calcetines." repeated the man.
"I still don't know what you're trying to say. We have some fine pants on this rack." offered the salesgirl.
"No, no quiero pantalones. Quiero calcetines." insisted the man.
"These sweaters are top quality." the salesgirl probed.
"No, no quiero sueter. Quiero calcetines." said the man.
"Our undershirts are over here." fumbled the salesgirl, beginning to lose patience.
"No, no quiero camisetas. Quiero calcetines." the man repeated.
As they passed the underwear counter, the man spotted a display of socks and happily grabbed a pair. Holding them up he proclaimed "Eso si que es!".
"Well, if you could spell it, why didn't you do that in the beginning?" asked the exasperated salesgirl.

Vatican reeling as DNA tests show communion wafers contain 0% Christ
The Vatican is this morning facing a further crisis after routine DNA tests revealed that the communion wafers used in Sunday mass contain 0% of the body and blood of Christ.
The findings are sure to pile further pressure on the ailing religious organisation, just days after their Chief Executive resigned citing ‘personal reasons’ and ‘being a bit old’.
The news will concern billions of Catholic consumers, previously led to believe they were consuming Christ himself each Sunday morning.
Catholic Simon Williams told us, “So what have I been eating all these years? It’s not bloody horse is it?”
“With the amount of cash I’m encouraged to put in the collection plate I can’t believe they’re scrimping on the ingredients.”
“You’ll be telling me next that the stuff they dip the wafer in isn’t actually blood.”
A spokesperson for the Vatican explained that the DNA test results merely highlight the incompatibility of science and religion.
They told us, “Where is your faith that the wafer is the body of Christ? Science can’t tell you everything, and just as it can’t prove God doesn’t exist, it can’t prove the wafer ISN’T the body of Christ.”

02:20 pm, December 31st - 2012
I transferred jobs at the end of February: less stress, better pay, I'm perfect for it, and I don't hate my boss. Going from hourly to salary made a big difference in my attitude. Great change!
My depression is in check. I'm looking at things a lot differently these days. My general health was better in December than it was in January of 2012 (at least according to the lab numbers).
Starbears became Starbucks. I'm still grieving the loss of community. I don't boycott them or anything; it's just physically uncomfortable to sit there.
I've gone out more. I never went to a (non-square) dance before. It hasn't been too exciting, but that fear is gone.
I made a new best friend. Reminds me a bit of my days with Rhoda (Tom).
Looking forward to a non-major election year in 2013!
