09:23 am, November 28th - Every so often
Every so often I dig my head outta my butt and ask myself if my life is going where I want it to.

My answer of the now is NO. Not that it's so bad... I just don't feel like an adult. I was at a Thanksgiving dinner and horrified to learn that I was the OLDEST person in the room. It's one thing to feel young at heart, but another thing entirely to feel immature... where's the house, the spouse, the savings account?

I'm just not sure where I'm going from here.

05:48 pm, November 27th - A Happy Thanksgiving
Hoody and I braved the perils of I-80 holiday traffic to spend Thanksgiving with my sister Kathryn at her new place in Auburn. Hoody drove the PT; docs won't let me drive for two weeks, so my head doesn't fall off. ;)
Traffic was dense, but moving at a steady pace. Hoody found himself calling the incessant lane-darters "Bitch!", when an errant SUV or truck barged into the small following distance ahead and slammed on their brakes, but found it more satisfying to instead call out "Love your hair!"

The countryside rolled by though, grassy brown hills contrasting with the bright hues of red and orange on the trees hugging the freeway, the golds and yellow echoed by the sunset sky as we crawled across the central valley, a river of red tail lights strung ahead to the horizon.

Three and a half hours later, we arrived at Kathryn's new pad, the caretaker's house behind one of the mansions built during the gold rush. She had barely unpacked, but the place fit her completely. Old wood paneling, hardwood floors, vintage stove and farm sink, and a sunroom with a view of the American River valley and the Forestville bridge. Her daughter Chelsea was re-packing for her move to Tahoe and her new job at a ski resort.

family

Kathryn's friend Myrna had invited us to her place, and when we arrived the place smelled wonderful--roast turkey and pie, and a savory mystery scent that wafted from the kitchen.
My niece Angelina brought her boyfriend Evan, and Myrna's roommate Jennifer rounded out the group that filled the long table. I gave a toast to friends and loved ones, noting how fortunate we are to be able to gather this way.

It was a long, relaxed feast, full of great food and wine, stories and laughter. After so long at home, it was great to get out and see folks, catch up with our lives, and savor the little things that make a family, whether born or chosen, such a beautiful thing.

05:25 pm, November 27th - Wii anyone?

I made a deal with Dave that if I got a Wii, he'd get me a Wii Fitness for Christmas. I know a few friends have a Wii on here, so do you think a Wii Fitness would be something I'd be able to do? Would it be beneficial? I'd like to start exercising more at the apt. and I want something that will keep my attention.

Let me know what you think! :)

03:10 pm, November 27th - So tired!
It amazes me how exhausted I still am. I went to bed at maybe ten last night and I haven't truly gotten up yet. I've been dozing off and on all this time.

If I had to get a flu that comes with lingering exhaustion, at least I picked a good time for it. Thanksgiving -- if we're not traveling to call, as we usually are -- is a time of very few commitments.

I must lever myself upright and study chemistry. That's the one thing I do need to do right now. My make-up exam is Monday and I'm working this weekend, so I'd better study now. Rumor has it that this exam is not as hard as the previous one. Good. But I can't afford to slack off. I need a high A on this to make up for my score on the previous one.

Maybe I can study in short bursts, taking frequent naps in between.

02:51 pm, November 27th - Thanksgiving redux
Aside from Good Friday, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

I went to Starbears in the morning and completed chapter 13 homework for my chemistry class. I'm not digging amino acids so much. At least there was scenery at the kafe. Lots of people seemed to be out and about the village.

Came home, baked some cheese olives, and then [info]rootbeer1 and [info]qbear picked us up to go to Cal & Dave's for the rest of the day. We were joined my Mr. French, and had gobs of food. It was very relaxing, and the feast was delicious.

Got home and Steve bugged me about the trash bins. I was pretty sure there would be a holiday delay, so I just went to bed after watching Survivor. I stayed in bed until 8am this morning (waking up several times in the night). Got up and checked the trash pickup schedule, and there was no delay. Whoops. Luckily, they hadn't been by yet, so I was able to get trashed. Now ya know.

05:22 pm, November 27th - Quotes from Sense and Sensibility
Recently I developed a sudden interest in reading Jane Austen novels. I decided to read them in the order they were published. I've been reading Sense and Sensibility in the past 10 days, and I should be able to finish it today.

Some interesting points that I'd like to remember from this novel:

1. "If you observe, people always live for ever when there is any annuity to be paid them".

2. "Brandon is just the kind of man, whome everybody speaks well of, and nobody cares about; whome all are delighted to see, and nobody remembers to talke to." (my comment: No, this describes Edward Ferrars, not Colonel Brandon.)

3. Charlotte laughed heartily to think that her husband could not get rid of her, and exultingly said, she did not care how cross he was to her, as they must live together.

4. "Oh! dear, yes; I know him extremely well", replied Mrs. Palmer. "Not that I ever spoke to him, indeed; but I have seen him for ever in town".

5. She was silent. Elinor's security sunk, but her self command did not sink with it.

6. Elinor agreed to it all, for she did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition.

7. "I wish with all my heart, that we had asked your sisters instead of them." Here he stopped to be thanked; which being done, he went on.

09:30 pm, November 26th - Potluck or Bust
Covered dish day at Denim Hell was pretty much a bust. Thank FSM I went into this with low expectations.

I brought in my fabulous coca-cola ham, the cheesy potatoes people go nuts for, and my Pumpkin Gooey butter cake with rum flavored whipped cream.

Yeah. I rule.

A few folks who promised to bring in food just didnt. The ones that did brought the store bought mini cupcake six pack, the pumpkin loaf...blah...and one poor fool tried to get by with a bag of sweet tarts he had in his car. Oh hellz no.

A few other contestants tried. One lady brought in a tray of homeade macaroni and cheese. Poor thing, she tried but seriously nasty stuff. One floor supervisor brought in garlic mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and some yam thing. Sounds good right? Well it would have been but she brought in snack sized baking dishes of each thing. I dont know if she expected the messiah to show up for dinner and pull the two little fishes and five loaves of bread trick but damn...it's a covered dish dinner, not an appetizer showcase.

I stuck with the food I brought in. I ate well all day.

Around 5pm the turkey showed up...or rather the chopped up turkey breast a Sr Manager cooked for the group. I had a piece. It wasnt bad but this hootinanny started at noon and by 5 people were just over the eating thing. She also brought in a little dish of some super dry stuffing and a ...get this....jar of Kraft Turkey gravy. I'm pretty sure it's still sitting back on the breakroom table; a lone momument to the word fail.

Once again AMC sucked me into the all day Godfather marathon and I sat in the breakroom all day and watched part 2 and 3 from noon until 8pm.

I did have one ticket to work today. The obnoxious floor lead today called and opened up a high severity trouble ticket because her floor management software wouldnt launch. I fixed it but I shamed her heavily for it. You see, she had two agents working today...TWO...and for those TWO agents she needed time management software. Luckily when a high severity ticket is opened, all the higher ups and grand poobahs are automatically emailed the updates and resolution. Needless to say, I made sure the tracking information highlighted the dynamic duo of agents she panicked about managing hands on. Tomorrow's daily management meeting should be interesting when my ticket notes are read for the assembled crowd.

For the record, shame goes great with ham and cheesy potatoes.

Now I get to take a jeep full of food home. My potatoes are mostly gone which makes me sad because I love them so. Half the ham is gone and so is half the cake. If nothing else I'll eat well tomorrow. I may need to go black friday shopping tomorrow for bigger pants.

06:23 pm, November 26th - Thanksgiving
Had a wonderful day! Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year.

I had a free range, antibiotic and hormone free, 20 lb Amish turkey. I soak mine overnight in a couple cans of beer after injecting the beer into the breast and legs. It was so juicy and tender!!!

Other sides were:

Bread stuffing
French meat stuffing (toutierre)
Mashed potatoes
Butternut squash souffle
Baby peas
Green bean casserole
Homemade cranberry relish with orange rind and crushed pineapple

And for dessert:

Mincemeat pie
Fresh pumpkin pie
Amish oatmeal walnut pie
(All with home made crust!!)

WE all laughed and had a good time.

Missed you boyshapedbox!!

I have tomorrow off and all next week as vacation time so am looking forward to some R&R.

Hope you all had a great day!

10:46 am, November 26th - That settles it
I am a fool. Ok, so my tummy has been feeling and working normally for the last couple weeks. Last night, the pizza place made a pizza on the normal crust instead of the gluten free as I requested. I had friends waiting for the pizza and I didn't want to hang around and wait for them to make a new one. (I should have brought that to my friends, and had them do a small one for me to come back and get~the pizza place is close enough that the drive is nothing...) hindsight being 20/20...but oh no.

The pizza was DELICIOUS....but.... within 3 hours my gut was gurgling like a drain, and today, I have the same old "delightful" feeling like there is a balloon animal in my lower abdomen. Very unhappy.

Ok, I get it. Not allowed anymore.

On the plus side, I've discovered that I quite like hard ciders. On the other plus side, my 34 waist pants, the Levis? They fit perfectly... and the love handles are literally melting away. Now to get back in the gym to reinflate my chest. I may still weigh above 200#, but I'm starting to feel puny.
