Bought a new blazer. I've gone from a 38R to a 40R and apparently I've also started looking like an English professor.

 | 02:17 pm, July 16th - MemcacheD Update Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries.
The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website.
Thanks...

 | 10:40 am, July 16th I got 5-worded by jepherzephyr so… here they are.
Decadence… Just about my favorite weekend/event of the year, tied with the cruise in February. I love New Orleans, the food, the feel, the people. Used to, decadence was all about well… decadence to me. Lots of sex and alcohol and partying. Over the last 10 years it’s become much more. I see friends I only get to see once in a blue moon, wonderful folks like Jefferzephyr, Texwriterbear, Cajuncountry, and Goofycubb, Dreamwriter and if I’m real lucky, Madknits… and so many more guys I’m sure I’m forgetting. Yes, there is still alcohol (and men) consumed but it really gets down to being in a wonderful city with some of the best guys in the world for a weekend of laughs and fun.
Dives… I love a good dive for a down home breakfast. There aren’t many round these parts but when I travel I always enjoy a nice greasy spoon to chow down at. Why is it that bacon always tastes better in an old dive restaurant.
Jukebox… don’t put another dime in it, I don’t wanna hear that song no more. I miss jukeboxes, the cool old ones that picked up the old 45 record and played it. As a kid my cousins and I always fought over who got to put the quarters in and choose what got played, I wanted Olivia Newton-John and Crystal Gayle, they wanted AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. They usually won cause that way I could keep my quarters for later.
skin… it’s my favorite part of the chicken. Sooooo fatty bad for you compared to the rest of the chicken but when it’s roasted/fried/bbq’d crispy good…. Mmmmmmmmm Loves it! personality… personality traits that are tops on my list… humor, compassion, honestly, fairness, respect. Nuff said… Current Mood: word-y Current Music: Tom Tom Club - Wordy Rappinghood

 | 12:46 am, July 16th - I Called Plus/A2 at El Camino Reelers... I had a lot of fun calling a club night for El Camino Reelers (Plus/A2) last night. (It was my first time there.)
After having called exactly two tips in the last 12 months, I was a bit rusty. I was a bit worried but people seemed to be having a good time. (Lest we forget, square dancing is, at least in part, a form of recreation, and square dancers want to be entertained.)
ECR are a lot of fun. I had three squares going a lot of the time, which is more than I'm used to. We nearly had a star tip, but some of the dancers I would have thought would have made one up were out of town.
I workshopped the "Guitar Polka" singing call record, and this time we nearly made it! At some point, each of the squares made it through the figure once, and I think one, maybe two of the squares were on track to getting through it four times, but there were 'technical difficulties' and we gave up after the second attempt. What I love about this record is that everyone seemed to enjoy it, and had a good time even if they didn't make it through! I'm going to look for more old singing calls, and when I get a little more smooth, I will try to workshop more of them.
Through the vagueries of scheduling, and trading dates with another caller, I have a Midnight Squares A2/C1 club night next Thursday, and then nothing for a while. Midnight Squares is more familiar territory, and I won't be as rusty now.

 | 10:06 pm, July 15th - Night Shift It's yet another Wednesday evening maintenance cycle at the office. I'm typing this in the data center, waiting for some system integrity checks to complete.
Tonight's load is actually relatively light as far as the work is concerned: I've strung a few cables, moved a server blade from one chassis to another, installed some libraries on seven Solaris 10 boxes and will shortly be imaging two servers with Linux. So far, the only trouble I've encountered was the traffic getting here from home but that's not unusual in the DC area.
And I finally got my car washed. I located a car wash not far from the data center so when I realized I still had a little extra time before my evening work would begin, I zipped in to take two weeks worth of tree sap and entrapped dirt off my Civic. Both of us feel much cleaner now.
Now to close out some work tickets and finish the integrity checks...

 | 06:52 pm, July 15th - Thunderbird profile Help me, Oh Lazywebs, you're my only hope.
I wish to use Mozilla Thunderbird to slurp down my e-mail from the server, but I do not wish Mozilla Thunderbird to place all of this bounty on my C: drive. I'd much rather it went to the big shared drives in the other room. So far, the only thing I can figure out how to do is move my "Local Folders" to a place that is not in fact local. How do I move the whole shebang?
My Google-fu is weak. All it tells me is that such a move is likely to make Thunderbird slow. I knew that part. I just want it to work at all, which won't happen with a drive this full.
edit: ahh, I think I've got it. Current Mood: curious

 | 06:20 pm, July 15th - I heartily recommend the Bike Doctor! The Bike Doctor has come and gone, and my bike is HAPPY. It got all new brake pads and one new tube. It also got both tires replaced -- even I could see how deep some of those cracks were, and hey, they were made of rubber 17 years ago, so it was time. The new ones are road tires, which will probably make me faster!
He didn't have any magical suggestions for lowering the seat any farther than it can go. Too bad. If I could afford a new bike, hey, I'd be getting one. :) He agreed that my pump was junk. "You need a stand pump," he said (or maybe he called it a floor pump), and when I allowed as how there was one in the garage, he nodded. He mostly sells the CO2 cartridges instead of pumps now. Sounds good to me. I'll ditch the pump, grab a couple of cartridges, and not worry so much about kicking the pump off the bar on my awkward dismount. He also recommended a better headlight, which I'll pick up when we start having some dark.
I'm going out riding right now. I don't care if it's 100 degrees and rush hour. Wheee! Current Mood: pleased

 | 05:19 pm, July 15th - Mighty Huntuh's last hunt

In 1989, Mike skullbunny found a gray Tabby kitten on the front porch of the WLMC clubhouse in Salt Lake. He wanted to adopt the little stray, but I was still grieving from the death of Cinnamon Toast and didn't want another pet. He gave her to the young lesbian couple next door, but they moved a few months later and couldn't keep him. They had named him Tac. By then he had become a lanky adolescent, who loved to fetch the fallen crabapples in the backyard. We tossed, he'd run and bring the apple back, laugh, repeat. He ruled the roost until Lisa showed up on our back deck, tiny as a teacup but with a set of lungs that could fill the house.
The two were nearly identical Tabbies, and once they were grown it was hard to tell them apart at first glance. Mike and I bought a condo in the Avenues, and they enjoyed the side yard on our end unit, particularly after one heavy snow. Mike opened the back door to reveal a foot-high wall of white blocking the kitties way. Tac leapt up onto the crusty surface, and Lisa followed, only to crunch through and disappear into the softer stuff below. Suddenly Tac crashed up out of the crust, spraying sparkling snowflakes into the dry, chill air, arcing back to plunge below again. Lisa followed him, leaping and plunging, frolicking like dolphins across the frosty yard. ( More babbling and pics )

 | 10:32 am, July 15th - 2010? 2012? Last night, Steve and I went to the LGBT Center for the two-hour "Get Engaged" tour. They presented some indepth polling statistics done in May. A theme of the meeting was repealing prop 8 in 2012 vs 2010.
There were many groups represented, but no particular group was in charge. Those in charge seemed to lean toward 2012. A straw poll was taken at the beginning of the session, and a majority of audience there favored 2010. After some very convincing statements from those in the audience, a few more people at the end of the night were leaning toward 2010. (And then 2012, 2014, etc.) I'm not so sure the representatives from the various groups were convinced. ( Read more... )
